St. James Episcopal Church Wilmington NC Numbered 19.

Item Description:

Description on back: St. James Episcopal Church at Wilmington, North Carolina is one of the most venerable and historic edifices to be found along the Atlantic seaboard. This structure was used by Lord Charles Cornwallis, Commander of the British forces, as a stable, when he captured Wilmington in 1781 and during the Civil War was utilized as a hospital for wounded Union soldiers. On the wall of the church hangs a wonderful painting, showing the head of Christ, captured from a pirate ship in 1719.
